Biblical Timeline

Where is Jeremiah?

The Call of Jeremiah

Life-World (v.2)
Politics, Power Struggles, Beliefs, Kings, Death, War
It’s into this that Jeremiah is called to speak the WORD
How can words change our life world?
Formed (v.5)
Genesis 2:7 “Then the Lord God formed a man w from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being” (NIV)
Intentional Formation, Loving Creation
How does God telling Jeremiah of his formation affect his call?
Known (v.5)
Genesis 4:1 “Now Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore Cain” (ESV).
Sexual Intimacy, Knowing on a Personal Level, Covenantal Knowing
Set Apart (v.5)
Set apart for a specific use
Persons, places, days, places, things are all set apart for God’s use
To go against this is blasphemy
What does it mean that we are set apart?
Appointed (v.5)
Placed in a specific place
To give
Sent (v.7)
Command is ambiguous
To where am I being sent?
Commanded (v.7)
No room for Jeremiah’s words
Rescued (v.8)
Whatever Trouble may befall him, God will “snatch” him
Equipped (v.9)
Empowered (v.10)
Watched (v.12)
Why does the Lord say this?

What does Jeremiah’s call have to do with us?

Because of 1 Peter 2:9
“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light” (NIV)
Jeremiah’s Calling is Ours!
We, too, are all of the things listed above.
